Chattanooga Love, Montana Promise

Kayla & Cody’s Destination Elopement in Livingston, Montana

September 19, 2023

I think we all dream of a wedding where time seems to pause, love feels infinite, and the world around you melts into the background—leaving only you, your partner, and the moment you vow forever. For Kayla and Cody McNabb, that dream became a reality in the breathtaking landscape of Livingston, Montana.

Originally, Kayla and Cody planned a wedding close to home in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the beautiful Grandview Venue. But after many conversations and quiet dreaming, they realized their hearts were pulling them somewhere else—somewhere wilder, more intimate, more them. When Kayla reached out to me and asked if I’d travel to Montana to capture their elopement, I didn’t hesitate for a second.

Together, we dove into planning—discussing logistics, flights, budgets, and timelines. My husband joined me on the trip, and we stayed in a cozy cabin about 30 minutes from where their ceremony would take place. We gave ourselves an extra day to explore Yellowstone National Park, and I’ll admit—standing at the top of a mountain overlooking that vast, untouched wilderness brought tears to my eyes. It was as if the land itself was whispering stories of love, adventure, and timeless beauty.

September 19, 2023, arrived—wedding day. I met Kayla, Cody, and their loved ones at a cabin nestled beneath Montana’s expansive sky. The atmosphere was peaceful, the air crisp, and the love—present. I began capturing quiet, candid moments: friends laughing, family helping with final details, and the soft anticipation that builds before a bride walks down the aisle.

Kayla shared tender moments with her mother and sister as they helped her get ready. It’s always one of my favorite parts of a wedding—the calm before the vow, the love shared between women who have watched each other grow.

Outside, Cody waited for his bride, standing in the open beauty of a Montana mountainside. And when Kayla appeared, everything fell still. There are weddings where the air shifts, where the love is so tangible it gives you chills. This was one of those days. Every guest, myself included, felt the depth of their bond. It was more than just a ceremony—it was a quiet promise made under a vast sky, witnessed by mountains and those they hold dear.

After their heartfelt vows, the celebration continued with a beautifully crafted tablescape prepared by their closest family and friends. There were memorable toasts, laughter that echoed through the trees, and joyful dancing beneath the stars. It was simple, meaningful, and unforgettable.

Kayla and Cody’s elopement will forever hold a special place in my heart. They were my very first destination elopement couple, and I can’t think of a more perfect experience to begin that chapter destination wedding photography journey. Their love—rooted, wild, and full of grace—was a reminder of why I do what I do.

Montana gave us the backdrop, but Kayla and Cody brought the magic.
